Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is tempguard compared to other thermometers?

Test have shown that a more accurate reading is obtained from the abdomen than the ear or forehead. (this is the reason why ear or forehead thermometer manufacturers advise you to take multiple readings and then average the results) As the only true core body temperature reading is possible from a rectal reading (which is very intrusive and uncomfortable for the child) we are pleased with advocating tempguard as the most accurate "non invasive" thermometer. The Tempguard has been laboratory tested and the findings confirm that the accuracy of the thermometer is within 0.1oC.

How do I attach tempguard to a baby?

The thermometer unit clips onto the child's nappy or pants, approximately 30 mm from the abdomen. When turned on the tempguard will take your child's temperature every 5 seconds.

Is tempguard used on a newborn?

The tempguard is used on newborns and has the advantage of being able to monitor a newborns sleeping temperature which makes it a great tool for parents in establishing if the baby is too hot or cold while they sleep.

Can tempguard come loose while a child is sleeping?

Although rare, the thermometer unit may dislodge during sleep, especially with restless sleepers. If this does occur, an alarm will sound on the monitoring unit to alert you of this. To keep the thermometer unit secure on a restless child, for your convenience, we have included a velcrose belt in the packaging.

Does tempguard need batteries?

Each unit comes with 2 lithium batteries included, these batteries will be sufficient for 12 months of normal use or 2 months of continual use. We do recommend that batteries are changed after 12 months.

Can I set tempguard to go off at a certain temperature?

Absolutely ! The monitoring unit has alarm setting in 0.5oC increments, meaning you can set an alarm to ring from 36.5oC thru to 39.0oC. The added feature is that the unit will also alert you if there is any sudden drop in temperature.

What happens if the baby's tempguard unit gets wet?

The tempguard is water resistant and we recommend that you clean the outer surface after use with alcohol or a damp cloth. However it is not water proof so please do not submerge into water. Normal dampness of a nappy will not affect the tempguard.

What age of child can wear the tempguard?

Recommended to use on children under 8 years old.
